First year Art and Design groups; Nore, Barrow and Slaney have just completed a wonderful project. The project is entitled: ‘A Tribute to Vincent Van Gogh’. The students studied the works, life and techniques of this wonderful Master. They chose to focus on his ’Starry Night’, ‘The Sunflowers’ series and his ‘Bedroom Chair’. Through these works, students were able to learn how Van Gogh applied paint in thick impasto style to create visual texture. They also looked closely at how he planned and laid out his compositions and how he used colour so beautifully to express both his happiness and his pain. They worked individually and in groups on these pieces and everyone is astounded at how convincing the pieces worked out. It has been a wonderful way of appreciating the work of such a master of the art world who would have been 163 years old on March 30th just gone. Happy Birthday Vincent!
