BOOK CHARACTER SCULPTURES Second year Art and Design students from St. Mary’s Secondary School, present sculptures of their favourite childhood book characters in conjunction with World Book Day 2016 and Edenderry Library. Due to popular demand the exhibition of these amazing characters is ongoing for the foreseeable future. The characters were chosen by the students as their favourite childhood characters, working from original illustrations in books. Their aim was to recreate their character, bringing them to life through the medium of sculpture, using only found materials. The sculptures are made from objects and materials like plastic drink bottles, yogurt cartons, wire, tissue paper, gum strip, scraps of fabrics and newspaper. Students researched, drew and documented their journeys throughout the project in their visual diaries. A great deal of problem solving took place throughout the learning process. The entire project forms a very valuable basis for the three dimensional component of their Junior Cert exam next year
